My life as a guinea pig.

Okay, not really.  But to make extra cash on the side (side of what?  I don’t really do anything…), I volunteer for paid user (and usability) studies and medical experiments (apparently other than the fact that I am left handed, I make a pretty standard healthy control).  I don’t yet have the courage to do any kind of invasive testing, like having them take blood samples and make me use trial medications/supplements/vitamins.  Also, it’s less annoying than doing all those online marketing research surveys, which, the lower my bank account goes, the more appealing they look!  I’ve wondered, though, if it’s the fact that this is Silicon Valley and Palo Alto is the home of Stanford University that so many of these opportunities seem to come up.  There’s a lot of technology and research being done here, especially for Internet applications and programs, and I’m such a target demographic with my somewhat disposable income and Gen-whatever birthright.  Sometimes I wonder about the sample population of these studies; it just so happens that I’m in an online degree program and have a part-time job.  How would they ever get full-time techie workaholics in to test products and get their brains scanned?
