I can’t believe how expensive Le Creuset casseroles/Dutch ovens are! They sure are pretty, though. In the end, I went with a cheapo cast iron Lodge dutch oven ($29.99 at Target vs. $200ish for a 2.3 to 5 qt. Le Creuset) and christened it by turning chewy stew beef into delicious beef bourguignon a la Julia Child (well, I followed her recipe up to a point at which I was too impatient to keep it cooking and wanted to eat it). It stewed in the oven for about three hours last night and is currently sitting in the fridge because I want to wait to prepare wide egg noodles and watch “Julie & Julia,” which I got from Netflix.
