Nook in West Los Angeles.

Another BBE score–free bottle of wine at Nook.  Nook is a really popular yet unassuming almost hole-in-the-wall in one of those nondescript plazas off Santa Monica Blvd. in West LA.  I loved the interior because it had a lofted ceiling, a large tavern-style communal table in the middle, and small tables around the outside–completely uncluttered, unlike some restaurants that try and pack as many people in.  The mac & cheese ($8) came highly recommended from various Yelp and Chowhound searches, and it was one of the best traditional renditions with a slightly crispy top and melty, stringy cheese.  While at first glance, the menu appeared a little more expensive than a cafe, the portions are enormous and I’d say the value is extremely good.  We got a great celery soup, the mac, and two entries, which was way more than enough food.
