Well, this macaroni and cheese is off to an interesting start…

So I bought “verse karne melk.”  Karne looks an awful lot like carne which I assumed was cow i.e. cow milk (as opposed to soy or goat?).  Turns out, it’s buttermilk (shouldn’t it be botermelk??).  Hmm.  This could either be a great thing or a terrible thing.

    Hi Irene,
What you need to buy is simply calld “melk” (Half Volle” is semi skimmed milk), just like in english “milk” is taken for granted to be from cows unless otherwise specified, Ergo “melk” is always cow milk.
Karne melk is one of those specific names to differentiate it from regular milk… ouch this is simply a case of over complicating the translation LOL
If you have idea for a shopping list,, ie: general stuff you have in mind, write us a list and we will make a translation list of it to guide you around the supermarket yes?
(You are not alone in making supermarket blunders, I’ve been tired and in a hurry and discovered some stunning blunders when I unpacked my shopping bags at home)
