Restaurants to try! And other things to do. [Updated]

  • Little V (Vietnamese)
  • Alexander (reasonably priced French, signature dish is free range chicken stuffed with foie gras and truffle sauce)
  • Le Bon Mangeur (more expensive French, but they serve sweetbreads!)
  • Kee Lun Palace (Dim sum!) [Done.  Not bad, but I think there’s a place closer to my apartment.]
  • Restaurant At Sea (looks expensive but they have a foie gras lasagna for only €19,50)
  • Water en Brood (Water & Bread, vegan restaurant)
  • Basaal (“Modern European”… not sure what that means)
  • Saur (I dunno, it’s near my house and has steak tartare, that’s all I want)
  • Waterreus (one of the many trendy beach clubs in Scheveningen, but I’m looking for a place to relax, read a book/study by myself, and eat escargots)

Oh, and there’s a crazy expensive restaurant called Calla’s, but look at these dishes:
Pan-fried veal sweet bread with Oosterschelde lobster, sauce of cider and curry – €43,00
Beef tartar (Wagyu) with thinly sliced langoustines and avocado mayonnaise – €35,00
Marinated duck liver with smoked eel and fritot of zucchini flower – €35,00

Also, there’s a two-Michelin star restaurant nearby between Delft and Rotterdam called De Zwethheul.  If starters are €30-40, should I even bother looking at the rest of the menu?

Amazing.

Things to do:

  • Book & Antique Market – Sundays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. [Done, with Chinese roommates.  Antiquing is not for me.]
  • Steep Part Indoor Climbing – Weekdays 5-10:30 p.m., Weekends noon-5 or 6 p.m. [Done.  Mystifying boulder routes and a bit too hipster for me.  De Uithof was supremely better for bouldering, although I’d climb with a partner at Steep Part if I had one, just because it’s so close to my house.]
  • De Haagse Markt – Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. [Done.]
  • Museum Van Kleef – Mon-Sat, usually 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (It’s a distillery!  And a museum!)
  • Organic farmer’s market on Hofweg – Wed. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. [Done, several times.]
  • Museum Meermanno – Hey, it’s a museum full of old books.  Kind of like a library, but not…
