Fat Spoon mac & cheese

Fat Spoon is a curry house in Little Tokyo/downtown LA that also does pasta and salad.  It’s kind of difficult to describe because it’s Japanese, but not an izakaya, not ramen, and not sushi.  It was the perfect stop after an open bar vintage clothing market (hmm… first world problems) because we were a little drunk and the food is really comforting.  Take this mac and cheese appetizer ($5).  It was weirdly one of the best mac and cheeses I’ve had!  It had big, fat noodles, creamy, cheesy sauce, and a panko breadcrumb crust.  Simple, essential, no frills, and delicious.

Beef carpaccio appetizer with veggies.  I’ve been craving raw meat.  Must be all the vegan stuff I’ve been eating lately.  Tom got beef tongue curry which was so tender and delicious, but I didn’t get a picture because homestyle curry is kind of ugly.

Uni pasta with mushrooms.  So much delicious uni in a gigantic bowl.

All this washed down with a bottle of dry sake makes for a nice chilly night.
